A translocation is a change in the genetic material (DNA) in which a section of a chromosome breaks off and reattaches itself at a different location. Chromosomes are structures within cells that contain genetic information. These changes can be present from birth or develop over the course of a person’s life and play a role in the development of certain diseases (such as cancer).
