Patient Research Council NCT Heidelberg

With the expansion of the NCT in February 2023, patients will be involved in research as research partners in a structured and permanent way for the first time in Germany. Patients are involved in all phases of a research project - from the initial question to the final discussion of the results. They contribute their own experiences as well as additional perspectives on important issues. How can study protocols be implemented and how attractive are they? How comprehensible are study documents? Which research topics are important to us patients?

Against this background

  • the members of the Patient Research Council NCT Heidelberg support researchers and physicians in the development
    of clinical trials
  • the Patient Research Council represents the patient perspective in NCT decision-making bodies, working groups and events.

Cindy Körner

Spokeswoman Patient Research Council

For us patients, One NCT primarily means hope for comprehensive access to innovative treatment options and thus hope that the diagnosis of cancer can increasingly be taken away from us. The early and long-term involvement of patients in the associated clinical trials represents a unique opportunity in Germany to make these innovations not only effective, but also patient-friendly. I am very pleased to have become part of this enormously important and goal-oriented movement.

Angelika Ballweber

Dr. Yanrui Dong

Thanks to major advances in cancer research, many modern therapies have been introduced that have significantly increased the life expectancy and quality of life of cancer patients. Based on my scientific background and my experience as a cancer patient myself, I would also like to make a contribution.

Julien Frick

At the age of 13, I was diagnosed with a low-grade spinal astrocytoma, which brought with it a time full of uncertainty, fear and long hospital stays. Thanks to the successful treatment and support at the Children's Cancer Center in Heidelberg, I was able to go my own way in medicine and study independently. Today, I work as a physician at the German Cancer Research Center and dedicate myself to research on long-term survival and the quality of life of cancer patients. My goal is to bridge the gap between clinical practice, science and the needs of those affected through patient-centered research.

Bernhard Ortseifen

After being diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2020, I received good treatments and therapies at the NCT Heidelberg. I would like to contribute my experience to the planning of studies so that the interests of those affected are safeguarded in the communication between doctor and patient.

Fabiana Ruiz

As someone personally affected by cancer, innovation in cancer research is a personal concern of mine. The importance of early diagnosis and the possibility of individualized therapies and even off-label treatments are critical and crucial for the survival of affected patients. Patient research projects are extremely important for this and I am very pleased to be able to make a contribution to this together with the Patient Research Council of the NCT Heidelberg.

Natalie Schweigert

With my experience as a patient, I would like to help continuously improve the needs and communication between patients and doctors and to make clinical studies more patient-oriented, including a patient-oriented and layman-friendly design of the entry threshold for participation in clinical studies.
