Intensity-modulated radiotherapy, IMRT

Intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) is a specialised form of external beam radiotherapy delivered through the skin. In this procedure, the radiation is precisely targeted at an irregularly shaped tumour using computer-guided technology. This ensures that the tumour tissue is irradiated as accurately as possible, whilst the surrounding tissue is largely spared.
