Bio

Professor Herrera is Chief of the Radiation Oncology Service at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV), University Hospital of Lausanne, Switzerland, with over 20 years of experience in radiation oncology, specializing in gynecologic and genitourinary cancers. Her clinical and research focus is on delivering innovative and safe radiation therapies that maximize tumor control while preserving quality of life. She received medical training at Princess Margaret Hospital, University of Toronto, and a PhD in immunology from the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research in Lausanne, and has held leadership roles within the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer, including Chair of the Gynecology Cancer Group (2020–2023), leading international clinical trials with embedded translational research. In parallel, her research has shown that immunomodulatory radiation strategies, including low-dose and spatially fractionated irradiation, can enhance responses to immunotherapy, and she currently leads and sponsors early-phase clinical trials in precision and FLASH radiotherapy with a focus on biomarker-driven patient selection and next-generation technologies.
