Bio


Prof. Ferdinando Rodríguez Y Baena is Professor of Medical Robotics in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London and Co-Director of the Hamlyn Centre within the Institute of Global Health Innovation. His research focuses on medical and surgical robotics, mechatronics, and the development of precision robotic systems for minimally invasive procedures and advanced medical devices. He earned his Ph.D. at Imperial College London and leads the Mechatronics in Medicine Laboratory, driving translational research in robotic technologies. 
He is a leading researcher with a strong record of high-impact publications and major competitive research funding. His achievements include a Leverhulme Prize in engineering, an ERC grant, and leadership of large international projects in robotic-assisted neurosurgery and endoluminal robotics. Beyond his research, he has held prominent leadership roles, including Chair of program committees, including his longstanding leadership of the Hamlyn Symposium, the premier international meeting on surgical robotics. His work bridges academic research and practical applications, advancing surgical robotics and contributing to better healthcare outcomes.
